Strategic Planning
2020 Communications has built a customized Strategic Planning System for use with food service companies, tourism organizations and operators, and industry associations.
The traditional model that many firms use to conduct strategic planning follows:
- Decide what needs to get done
- Decide how it is going to get done
- Find someone to do it
We feel that this approach is backwards. In order to set quantifiable goals, you must first look at what you are working with. When you are clear on your resources, you can effectively develop a plan. 2020 focuses on the business as a whole, then looks carefully at the team (staff), and considers their individual strengths and challenges, as well as their individual and collective visions. Our approach is:
- Measure what you have
- Decide where you want to go
- Devise a plan to move from where you are to where you want to be with the resources you have or acquiring the resources you need to hit organizational objectives.
Many companies, organizations, and groups shy away from planning because they see it as an arduous task and something to be approached with dread. Not in our model! Planning gives us the opportunity to get clear on a collective direction where the client wants to go, while at the same time, inventorying the opportunities (and potential threats) that are lying just under the surface. It is our responsibility to ensure that strategies, developed through this planning process, are easy to implement, measurable, and assigned to the people on the team that enjoy doing the work.
Strategic Planning is beneficial if a business, group, or association is:
- in the process of setting yearly goals
- experiencing a decline in business performance
- feeling stuck in their model and wants to freshen things up
- seeing a lack of engagement at the staff or client level
- uncertain about the next step in their evolution
- expanding their offering (either internally or externally) and wants to make sure they are ready for the growth
- in need of getting all the stakeholders on the same page with the same direction
- under new management, leadership, or management
Our process, step by step:
